FROCK OVARIAN CANCER

If you’ve been here for even a short time, you’ll know that I’m a strong supporter of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation through their annual Frocktober Campaign.

Why support Frocktober?

Why?

Because someone dies in Australia every 8 hours from this insidious disease, and that’s a statistic that is proving incredibly resistant to change.

And why is that?

Because despite best efforts from researchers here in Australia and around the world, there is still no early detection test. Symptoms of ovarian cancer are vague, and easily brushed of as something benign like low iron, or perhaps a gluten sensitivity, or menopause, or any number of other things. Formal diagnosis involves invasive surgery, and even with that it can take many months to determine exactly what kind of ovarian cancer they’ve found.

In addition to that joyful tale, ovarian cancer remains one of the most underfunded of all cancers.

So donning a dress sounds like a fun and easy way to help out.

I first heard of Frocktober over a decade ago, when it was still a relatively small affair. The idea was (and still is, at its heart) this: Wear a dress for each day of the month of October, and ask people to make donations.

That’s it! So simple!

I signed up for my first Frin a heartbeat, and only then thought about the fact that at the time I owned a sum total of three dresses.

I was screwed.

So I sent an email to my friends, family and past clients, explaining my predicament. Within a couple of days, dresses arrived at my door, on loan from people who just wanted to see the attempt succeed. That October was the best dressed month I’ve ever had.

Things have grown since then.

Since that first year I’ve done many different things to help raise funds for the OCRF. I’ve done the traditional Frocktober again, I’ve held a Frocktail Party, given away shoots as door prizes at fundraising events, held special “by donation” shoot days in the studio, and also did White Shirt Shoots.

Now I offer Frocktober Photo Shoots

These shoots are pretty special: When you book one of these sessions, we spend some time talking about your favourite colours, what necklines suit you, what kinds of dresses, and then I design a “mock frock” just for you.

When you come in for your shoot, I make that dress on you, on the spot, right there in the studio.

They’re not real dresses at all. They’re held together with clips and elastic and a few pins, but they look pretty spectacular:

And when we’re finished, it all comes undone and goes back into my fabric stash ready to make something new for someone else! (None of the dresses in that slideshow above is a real dress. They’re all just “mock frocks”.)

PLUS you then get the rest of your shoot time to be photographed in whatever other outfits you’d like. You can use that time to update your business or personal branding shots, or create some beautiful “just because” portraits, or even boudoir images if you like.

A great deal for you and for the OCRF

These sessions are a great deal, too. At just $375 AUD they’re less than half my usual minimum fee and two hundred dollars from every booking will go to Frocktober to help the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation continue to support research into an early detection test for this horrible disease.

Plus you receive complimentary hair and makeup styling and you get most of your booking fee back in credit towards the purchase of images from your shoot.

Make sure you’re on the Frocktober Shoot Waiting List!

There are only 31 of these sessions available in 2026.

That’s one for every day of October.

Now, I’ll be shooting some of them before October, and some after. (In fact, sometimes we run into the following year to accommodate some client schedules.) So don’t think that you have to be available for a shoot in October to grab one of these sessions.

Once you book, I’ll be in touch to start planning, including setting a date and time for your session.

They will be available for bookings soon, and I expect they’ll disappear fast, so make sure you’re on the waiting list to get first dibs.

Here’s where you can sign up:
